Tours for Cruise Ships

Excursions for guests of the cruise ships in the port of Samana

Tour participants will be picked up and dropped off at Samana Port pier. The duration of the individual excursions is adapted to the laytime of the cruise ship. Everyone gets back to the ship on time. Please take one of the first tender boats. A trip to Cayo Levantado is not possible with us, because this trip can only be made exclusively by the cruise ships themselves! That's why we drive to the beautiful beach Playa Anadel or Playa Carenero after a whale watching tour.

41 The National Park Los Haitises

The national park "Los Haitises" in the southwest of the bay of Samana includes the mangrove swamps, the dense tropical jungle forest and dozens of caves, some with rock engravings and sculptures of the indigenous people (Tainos). All kinds of animals are at home here.

The excursion begins with a 45-minute boat ride from Samana. We visit 2-3 caves and drive through the rugged rocky landscape where many bird species have their breeding places. Afterwards we drive with our boat through the mangroves into the interior of the nature park. We leave the boat at a small mooring and go to our next destination "Cano Hondo" (on foot or by moped approx. 10-15 min).

The complex is freely accessible and has 14 small, bricked natural swimming pools, which invite you to take a bath. The ideal place for nature lovers who like to relax. In the restaurant of the complex there is the possibility to have lunch in a nice atmosphere with a great view (not included in the excursion price).

On request we will make our way back to the jetty, where our captain will be waiting for you by boat. This is a unique nature experience, which you can almost only book with us.

Price per person $95 including lunch (min. 4 persons)
Day trip with Cayo Levantado
Price per person $80 without lunch (min. 4 persons)
This excursion is also possible for 2-3 persons for an extra charge.

42 Whale Watching Samana - Only from January 15th to the end of March!

From January to the end of March about 2-3000 humpback whales come to the bay of Samana to raise their young and mate again. Watching the sea giants jumping and diving up close will be an unforgettable experience for you!

After the whale inspection it goes still to the following stay to the Cayo Levantado, the so-called Bacardi island. There you can eat and drink according to your needs (not included in the excursion price). Souvenir stalls and the possibility of a massage are also available.

In order to protect the giants of the oceans, whale researchers, in collaboration with the Navy (Medio Ambiente), have drawn up some rules of conduct which are naturally observed by our captains. Small boats must keep a distance of 30 mtr, larger boats a distance of 50 mtr to the whale. A maximum of 3 boats are allowed to approach the whale group. If further boats are in waiting position, the first boats must leave the place after 20 minutes. The motors of the whale group must run at least with standing gas, so that a sonar sound is perceptible for the whales. Every boat must have a valid license to go whale watching. We often see that there are curious whales that shorten the safety distance. Then it is allowed to stay with the whale.

The Samana Zipline is with more than 2300 meters total length and 12 stations the longest in the whole Caribbean. It goes over a gorge that is more than 120 meters deep and you have a great view of the Lulu waterfall. You will be taken by taxi to a wooden ship, which is located on a mountain (140 m) and serves as a starting point. There you will be briefed and given your equipment to strap yourself to the cable car.

The first jump follows with a slight tingling sensation in the pit of the stomach. On 2 steel ropes one drives with the help of gravity over the gorge, which in some places is over 400 feet deep. The track has to be changed 11 times in order to reach a small waterfall (Cascada Lulu) with bathing facilities.

After the bath we continue by taxi to Playa El Valle. The beach, which is still completely natural, is located in a fantastic bay at the Atlantic Ocean. On the left side of the beach there is a fresh water inlet where you can also take a bath or directly in the sea. Some cabins on the beach provide for the physical well-being (not inclusive).

The island is, like most Cayos in the bay, under nature protection.

Here for example our suggestion:

- Playa Madama ...a small dreamy bay with a cave where spiders and bats live.
- Playa Rincon ...probably the most famous beach of the peninsula Samana, where a fresh water river ends, where you have the possibility to swim in the river or in the sea. This beach is one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world!

48 ATV Tour Las Galeras and Playa Rincon

Starting point of the tour is Santa Barbara de Samana. From here we drive along the bay of Samana in the direction of Las Galeras. On the way we make a short detour through the small fishing village Los Cacaos and visit at La Frances a cliff coast from which one has a wonderful view up to the Cabo de Samana. From here, the drive continues to a view point in a holiday resort, with a great view over the whole bay of Samana. Then we continue to Las Galeras.

Arrived in Las Galeras we first head for Playa Grande, the house beach of Las Galeras, where the main road also ends. With a view to Isla Isleta, a small offshore island, we drive along Playa Grande and make a detour to Playa Paraiso. From here we continue to the paradisiacal beach La Playita, which offers a view over the bay up to Cabo Cabron. On the way we cross small residential areas, where we get an impression of how the people live here.

Now we continue through small villages to Playa Rincon, one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. On the way we make a short stop and visit a shop where you can taste typical fruit and buy souvenirs. Arriving at Playa Rincon, we first drive to a very remote beach section, where you have a paradisiacal dream scenery all to yourself. Afterwards we drive along the almost 3 kilometres long sandy beach to the other end of Playa Rincon. There we explore the small river (Cano Frio), which offers an impressive photo motive with the mangroves and its breathtaking colours. Finally, we go to the mouth of the river, where a small lagoon invites to a refreshing bath in the crystal clear river water. Alternatively you can swim in the sea of Playa Rincon. A cosy, Dominican fish restaurant also offers the opportunity to satisfy your hunger or thirst.

The way back to Santa Barbara then goes over a gravel road through the Campo, past waving children, with a great view over the landscape to Las Galeras and the sea. Afterwards we make a short detour through the small village of El Frances.
